Mental Match Play Reminders

MAINTAIN RITUALS:

Create rituals before and between points to help relax, focus, and maintain your intensity. Something as easy as bouncing the ball 3 times before you serve will help you stay relaxed and comfortable.

CONTROLLED BREATHING:

Practice deep breathing between points along with exhaling at contact to help relaxation.

A WINNING PACE:

Pace yourself between points especially when you’re nervous, angry, or fatigued. This allows you to maintain control and remain focused.

EYE CONTROL:

Learn to focus your eyes on either your racket or the court surface to maintain concentration between points.

POSITIVE SELF TALK:

Avoid negative self-talk during play, it only brings you down while pumping your opponent up.

CONFIDENT FIGHTING IMAGE:

No matter how bad it gets, project the image that you are confident and will fight until the end. Remember keep moving your feet and keep the racket head up, it projects the image you of a CONFIDENT FIGHTER.
