Special “Points” of Interest

How do we control a match, build/maintain momentum, or break their spirit. Here are a few points of interest that need special attention to get winning results.

FIRST point of each GAME:

Focus on winning the 1st point and it makes it easier to maintain that intensity. Fforce your opponent to gamble a little more and start to build momentum and confidence. No one likes playing from behind.

SET up Points:

The point that gets you to an ad point. It offers a major reward to win or convert a game. It’s the 30-all or deuce point.

GAME Points:

The pressures on when the games on the line and a lot of players beat themselves. Force your opponent to play a lot of shots. Focus on footwork, contact point, something simple.

BREAK Points:

Put yourself in their shoes. They’ll play to their strengths. Not a lot of gambling going on here. Keep them out of their comfort zone.

TIE-breakers:

Separate the 1st two points from the previous set. Play with a renewed awareness. If your ahead, be aware of their “nothing to lose” mentality.

1st Game 2nd SET:

Could very well set the stage for the match especially if you up a set, make them play from behind. Constant pressure and consistent play can be devastating to your opponent. If you’re down a set, don’t try to go for too much too soon.

SET and MATCH Point DOWN:

Play 1 point at a time. Let them doubt their ability to close out the match. If you can attack, show them you’re “willing to fight” attitude.
